Be Positive, Bipolar Self Help Malta, an NGO under the patronage of H.E. the President of Malta, commemorated this day by having an information stand, in the main foyer of Mater Dei Hospital. We were also honoured that Christabelle, Malta’s Eurovision Singer for 2018, visited our stand to show her support and help us fight the Taboo. The Medical on-line dictionary describes Bipolar disorder, (previously known as manic depression,) as a mental illness that brings severe high and low moods and changes in sleep, energy, thinking, and behaviour.
People who have bipolar disorder can have periods in which they feel overly happy and energized and other times very sad, hopeless, and sluggish. In between the highs and lows, they usually feel normal.
This year’s focus is to show the public that individuals who live with bipolar disorder are more than their diagnosis; and when on the treatment they are capable of living full, successful lives, despite and in spite of their diagnosis. We also want to encourage people who live with bipolar disorder to remember that they can accomplish great things even though they have been diagnosed with BPD, and to remind them about our self-help group Do contact us – we can help each other, or perhaps that partner, you love and care for! Il-jum li jfakkar kull sena il-World Bipolar Day hu it-30 ta’ Marzu, li jaħbat il-ġurnata tat-twelid tal-famuz pittur, Vincent Van Gogh, li jgħidu kien ibati bil-bipolar. Dan il jum ifakkarna f’dawk li għandhom din il-kundizzjoni tal-bipolar jistgħu jirnexxu u li huma mhux waħedhom. Hija ġurnata li ttina ċans li nitgħallmu fuq din il-kundizzjoni u l-importanza li niġġieldu l-istigma li tmur mal problemi kollha mentali, u mhux inqas, mal-bipolar.
Be Positive, Bipolar Self Help Malta hi għaqda tal-voluntarjat taħt il-patroċinju ta’ E.T, il-President ta’ Malta; din l-għaqda fakret dil-ġurnata billi it-Tnejn u t-tlieta li għaddew ġewwa l-isptar Mater Dei, waqfet ‘stand’ ta’ informazjoni fejn wieħed seta’ jigbor tagħrif fuq din il-kundizzjoni. Membri voluntiera ta’ din l-għaqda kienu hemm biex jiltaqgħu ma min ried ikun jaf iktar.
